Everton vs Austria vienna July 14, 2013

The Roberto Martinez era officially starts on Sunday as Everton open their preseason campaign with a preseason trip to Austria Vienna. The Toffees have been in Austria all week from preseason training, and before heading home they will face off against a club that won the Austrian Bundesliga title last year.

The Austrian club is one of the most successful clubs in the country having won 24 league titles, good enough for second on the all-time list. They have also won 6 Austrian Supercup titles and 27 Austrian Cup titles. In Europe, the club made it to the UEFA Cup Winners' Cup final in 1978 followed by the semi-finals of the European Cup in 1979.

The club predominantly features players from Austria with 5 players coming from outside of the country, and has featured turnover over the past decade that would rival Chelsea. With an owner who was willing to spend triple the average Bundesliga budget, the turmoil resulting from the desire to win has been considerable.

For Everton, expect to see more of the youngsters and squad players in the squad. With many of the top players taking part in international matches after the conclusion of the previous campaign, Martinez is likely to give them more of a break before returning them to game action.

It is possible we could get a look at Joel Robles since the backup goalie normally plays the early preseason matches, but Robles returned to training this week and academy graduate Mason Springthorpe is more likely to get the nod.

As for everyone else your guess is good as any as to who will be playing, but keep an eye on what formation Martinez decides to deploy. A lot of internet space has been devoted to if Martinez will switch to a 3-5-2 or stay with Everton's 4-4-1-1. Saturday will be the first time we may get an inkling of what Martinez wants to do.

If you're interested in seeing the match, Everton TV will be broadcasting live but it will cost you. Single games are going for £3-4 pounds or you can purchase a package to see all of the preseason matches at a discount.
