Newcastle United vs Fulham April 7, 2013

While all the attention has focused on their noisy new Italian neighbour just down the road at Sunderland, the fact Newcastle are only two points better off than Paolo Di Canio’s team has not escaped Alan Pardew. With Sunderland visiting St James’ Park next Sunday, the Newcastle manager has dubbed this fixture a “must win” game. In an attempt to minimise post-Europa League fatigue, Newcastle stayed in Lisbon on Thursday night following their 3-1 defeat at Benfica rather than flying back to Tyneside in the early hours of Friday morning. Chelsea vs Sunderland April 7, 2013

With the hackneyed Di Canio fascism controversy (hopefully) addressed and out of the way, attention now turns to on-field happenings, where Sunderland will be searching for their first win in eight on Sunday afternoon. Having lost their last three away games consecutively while Chelsea have won their last four at home, things don't look good.

However, with Chelsea having fallen against Southampton in their last league match, their fallibility was once again revealed, giving Arsenal half a chance of overtaking them in the race for fourth place. The Gunners are currently occupying the final Champions League spot after their win against West Brom yesterday, with Rafa Benitez's side having a one point deficit to overcome if they are to reclaim fourth.
Chelsea vs Sunderland
Sunderland's problems come at the other end of the table, with them slipping to within a point of the relegation zone. It is perfectly feasible that at the end of this weekend, they will find themselves in the bottom three. Good fortune has well and truly deserted the Black Cats, who are without a couple of key players. Top scorer Steven Fletcher and captain Lee Cattermole are out until the end of the season, while defensive duo Carlos Cuéllar and Wes Brown remain doubtful.

Chelsea injuries and suspensions

STAT-ATTACK

Head-to-head

Tottenham have won just three of their last 13 matches against Everton.

This is the 165th meeting between the sides. Tottenham lead by 60 wins to Everton’s 55, with 49 draws.

Tottenham

Spurs are a point worse off than they were at the same stage last season under Harry Redknapp.

Andre Villas-Boas’ side are the only team in the division to have picked up more points away (29) than at home (28) this season

They have scored just 22 goals in 15 matches at White Hart Lane – nine fewer than they managed at the same stage of last season.

Tottenham have lost 35 Premier League matches in the month of April, more than any other team.

Everton

Everton have their highest points tally (51) since 2007-08, when they had 56 points and finished the season in fifth place.

They have scored a league-high 57% of their goals in the first half of matches this season.

The Toffees are winless in their three most recent away matches, losing the last two. They last lost three consecutive away matches between August and October 2005.

Liverpool vs West Ham April 7, 2013

Liverpool vs West Ham Barclays Premier League as Liverpool host West Ham at Anfield in the first of five matches. The Reds still have European ambitions when they host Sam Allardyce's team at 1.30pm who have won just once away from home since November. Kicking off 35 minutes later is a pivotal clash in the race to reach next season's Champions League as Tottenham host Everton at White Hart Lane.

Only Reading have lost more Premier League away games this season than West Ham, and Sam Allardyce’s side – minus the ineligible Andy Carroll against his parent club – will require a major transformation to upset a Liverpool team enjoying their best run of the campaign with four wins in five matches. Brendan Rodgers’s men have scored 20 goals in their past six home league games, have averaged three per game in their past six in total and have scored more at this stage of a campaign (59) than in any of the past 17 seasons.
