Venezuela vs Peru September 10, 2013

Venezuela and Peru will contest a World Cup qualifying match on Tuesday that has huge implications for both nations' chances of making it to the tournament next summer.

Both teams are currently out of the top five and could potentially be eliminated from contention without a favorable result on Tuesday. The top four sides automatically qualify for the tournament, while the fifth place team has another playoff to go before having a chance to book a spot in Brazil next summer.

Venezuela was once one of the top four teams, but currently sits three points behind fifth place Uruguay with only two games remaining; Uruguay has three. Venezuela is coming off a disappointing 3-0 loss against Chile that has put them in a "must-win" situation. With a victory, the team would still be able to max out at 22 points. With a loss, Venezuela would be eliminated with a draw between Uruguay and Colombia.

The situation is equally dire for Peru. They only have 14 points and no longer have control over their own destiny. With three games left, Peru can only get a maximum of 23 points; a loss or draw coupled with a Uruguayan win would essentially eliminate the team from a World Cup berth.

Prediction: This match means a lot to both sides and should feature a game full of tension and tons of action. Look for Venezuela to come out on top at home with a score of 1-0.
Start Time: 7:55 p.m. EST
