The United States men's national team takes on Costa Rica in its final match of group stage play of the CONCACAF Gold Cup Tuesday at 8 p.m. EDT. The game will be broadcast on FOX Soccer, UniMas and Univision Deportes.

We'll be right here live blogging all the action starting at 7 p.m. EDT.

After starting out the CONCACAF Gold Cup with two impressive wins in group-stage play, the United States men’s national team now prepares to face Costa Rica with the top spot in Group C on the line.

While both teams have already qualified for the knockout round, the winner of the U.S.-Costa Rica matchup on Tuesday, July 16, in East Hartford, Conn., will likely avoid Honduras in the quarterfinals on July 21 in Baltimore.

U.S. head coach Jurgen Klinsmann has also called Costa Rica "the first real benchmark for us" after the Americans cruised to easy wins over lowly Belize and an outmatched Cuban side by a cumulative 10-2 score.

With first place in Group C on the line, here are the key battles to watch between the U.S. and Costa Rica.

This evening, we go to the County Ground to take on Swindon in our third pre-season friendly of the summer; having already drawn 0-0 with Jamiaca and narrowly beating Brentfrod 3-2 on Saturday, this game will give us the chance to possibly see the youngsters in action alongside the more established first team players.

In Swindon's case, they have recently lost manager Kevin MacDonald after having just buying/loaning half of our reserve team; they have signed Nathan Byrne and Jack Barthram on free transfers and have loaned Massimo Luongo, Grant Hall and Alex Pritchard for the season and they are sure to put up a decent fight, regardless of their managerial situation.

After their poor last season, Newcastle United will focus on their pre season to set up their team well for upcoming season.

Newcastle United will be facing Scottish Premier league runner ups Motherwell on a pre season friendly match. Motherwell remained second in the league below Celtic with 16 points and are qualified for Europa league third qualifying round.

Motherwell collected 63 points in 38 games with 18 wins and 9 draws to remain second among twelve teams in the league.

Newcastle in the other hand survived relegation in English Premier league and finally ended 16th in the league table secure by just 5 points at the end of the season.

O Benfica volta a alinhar num jogo particular, esta terça-feira, em solo helvético, para defrontar o FC Sion. Está aí mais uma oportunidade para a equipa de Jesus atacar a nova época e afinar a defesa... para evitar as derrotas.

Mais um jogo para Jesus montar a sua estratégia

Após os jogos do fim-de-semana, que resultaram numa vitória e um empate, os comandados de Jorge Jesus voltam a jogo para afinarem a "máquina vermelha", tendo em vista a nova temporada.

A ideia passa, como quase sempre nestes casos, por prosseguir a evolução para o arranque oficial da temporada.

Dar minutos aos jogadores, afinar mecanismos e mostrar a nova versão do Benfica aos adeptos são, pois, objetivos da turma da Luz.

O Benfica vistoso e goleador (marca da era Jesus) já se vai mostrando nestes primeiros dias de pré-época. Mas o Benfica embalado para o ataque esbarra, tal como na última temporada, nos vários golos que também sofre e, para mal dos pecados encarnados, nos derradeiros momentos das partidas.
Depois da "maldição" dos descontos vivida pela nação benfiquista em pleno estádio do Dragão e na Amsterdam ArenA, na final da Liga Europa, o Benfica de Jorge Jesus voltou a deixar fugir uma vitória nos descontos, no último domingo, frente ao Bordeaux. Neste tipo de jogos, é sabido, o resultado é o que menos conta mas - lá dizem os mestres da bola - «é sempre melhor trabalhar em cima de vitórias».

FC Sion, um velho conhecido das pré-temporadas

Embora o jogo não seja oficial, os números também ajudam a enquadrar o jogo e eles dizem que os benfiquistas perderam já dois jogos particulares diante do FC Sion. De resto, nos quatro jogos entre estas equipas... o Benfica só por uma vez venceu.

BVB Borussia Dortmund gegen FC Luzern 16-07-2013

Im fünften Testspiel trifft Borussia Dortmund auf den FC Luzern. BVB-Trainer Jürgen Klopp testet Zugang Sokratis zum ersten Mal auf der Position des rechten Verteidigers. Für Tore sollen Henrikh Mkhitaryan und Robert Lewandowski sorgen.

Beim 4:1 (2:0)-Sieg im Testspiel gegen den türkischen Erstligisten Bursaspor traf Pierre-Emerick Aubameyang für Borussia Dortmund. Im nächsten Test gegen den FC Luzern sitzt der 13-Millionen-Euro-Einkauf erst einmal auf der Bank.

VB-Trainer Jürgen Klopp testet Zugang Sokratis (Werder Bremen) erstmals auf der Position des rechten Verteidigers. Sokratis wird wahrscheinlich in der Hinrunde den verletzten Lukasz Piszczek ersetzen, der wegen einer Operation lange pausieren muss.

So spielt der BVB
Langerak - Sokratis, Subotic, Hummels, Bandowski - Gündogan, Kirch - Hofmann, Mkhitaryan, Duksch - Lewandowski. Die Schweizer starteten bereits am vergangenen Wochenende in die Meisterschaftssaison 2013/14. Mit Erfolg. Gegen Lausanne gelang dem FC Luzern ein 2:0-Erfolg. In der heimischen Swisspoint-Arena sorgten Rangelov (29.) und Lustenberger (89.) für die Treffer. Die vergangene Saison beendeten die Luzerner auf Rang acht. In der Saison 2013/14 soll eine Steigerung her.

Beim BVB spricht alles von den beiden Neuzugängen Henrikh Mkhitaryan und Pierre-Emerick Aubameyang. In Rekordzeit hat Trainer Jürgen Klopp die beiden Spieler sportlich in die Mannschaft integriert.
