Chelsea enters the week in first place with seven points in three matches thus far; the team is coming off a 0-0 draw with Manchester United that featured a heavily defensive approach from the Blue. Chelsea is also coming off a heart-wrenching loss in the European Super Cup against Bayern Munich. Chelsea was seconds away from winning the trophy but allowed a goal in the waning seconds and lost in the penalty shootout.
Chelsea are still unbeaten in the league this season, with José Mourinho's team picking up seven points from a possible nine so far. They travel to Goodison Park on Saturday, to play an Everton team also yet to lose -- albeit having drawn all three of their winnable matches so far.
They will be without Chelsea loanee striker Romelu Lukaku, who is ineligible to play against his parent club. Joining him on the sidelines will be the unfit Antolín Alcaraz and Darron Gibson, while Séamus Coleman and James McCarthy are both doubtful. For Chelsea, midfielders Oscar and Eden Hazard are both doubtful after missing international games during the break, though should be available.
Everton's on-loan striker Romelu Lukaku is ineligible against his parent club but James McCarthy and Gareth Barry could make their debuts.
McCarthy suffered a slight knock on international duty for the Republic of Ireland, as did right-back Seamus Coleman, but both could play.
Chelsea manager Jose Mourinho says Samuel Eto'o will make his debut although he might not start.
The London side have no fresh injury problems.
