The Portuguese celebrated signing a new contract with a supreme performance while goals from Karim Benzema and Isco capped off the Blancos' evening

Real Madrid will begin their Champions League campaign against a familiar foe on Tuesday night, when Carlo Ancelotti's side take on Galatasaray in Istanbul.

Galatasary beat Madrid 3-2 last April in the second leg of their Champions League quarter-final clash, but the Spanish giants still prevailed 5-2 on aggregate.

Real Madrid and Galatasaray will kick-off their European campaign this Tuesday (20:45 CET) at Istanbul. Last season, both clubs met in the Champions League Quarterfinals and José Mourinho and his men managed to get a ticket to the Semifinals after winning 3-0 at the Bernabéu and losing 3-2 at Ali Sami Yen with a crowd that never gave up.

Galatasaray will get a chance to avenge their Champions League loss in last year's quarterfinal to Real Madrid when the two meet in a Champions League group game on Tuesday.

Last year, Galatasaray beat Real Madrid in Turkey in the second leg of their battle, 3-2. However, Madrid took the aggregate 5-3.

This Real Madrid will look quite a bit different. For starters, Jose Mourinho has moved on to Chelsea and has been replaced at the helm by Carlo Ancelotti.

Ancelotti had a productive summer with Real Madrid, and Isco, Asier Illarramendi and Gareth Bale have all since come to call Madrid home.

Real Madrid have not been playing well in these first matches. After Isco and Modric allowed the team to win the first nine points in La Liga, Villarreal put Real Madrid in trouble and managed to get a 2-2 draw with an unforgettable performance by Diego López, who saved his team numerous times.

López will not be Real Madrid's goalkeeper against Galatasaray, as Carlo Ancelotti confirmed in the pre-match press conference. Real's captain Iker Casillas will get a chance to prove himself as a better goalkeeper than Diego López, but Casillas will have a hard time trying to match Diego's performance against Villarreal.

Carlo Ancelotti might also have Álvaro Arbeloa available if the Spanish defender feels ready enough. Nacho Fernández was the team's left back at El Madrigal and he struggled quite a lot, so it could be smart to play Arbeloa in that position, since he's a far more experienced player than Nacho. Arbeloa's natural position on Real Madrid's right back would then be kept by Dani Carvajal, who assisted Gareth Bale for Real's first goal against Villarreal.

In the Turkish Super League, Gala have failed to win any of their last three league games, but Didier Drogba did get his first goal of the campaign last Friday as Fatih Terim's side drew 1-1 against Antalyaspor.

Madrid have included Gareth Bale in their squad for the Group B opener following his scoring debut in a 2-2 draw at Villareal in La Liga last weekend, but the Welshman is a doubt to start on Tuesday as he bids for full fitness.

Galatasaray: Muslera, Eboue, Chedjou, Nounkeu, Riera, Felipe Melo, Inan, Amrabat, Sniejder, Yilmaz, Drogba

Real Madrid: Lopez, Carvajal, Ramos, Pepe, Marcelo, Khedira, Modric, Isco, Ronaldo, Bale, Benzema

Manchester United vs Bayer Leverkusen September 17, 2013

Just before Manchester United’s most important game against Bayer Leverkusen, the one in 2002 that had a place in a European Cup final in Sir Alex Ferguson’s home city of Glasgow at stake, Roy Keane looked around him. There, as the Champions League anthem played, he noticed one of his team-mates, whom the Irishman  untypically refused to name, “shaking with nerves”.

There will be a shiver running through David Moyes’s body as the music plays at Old Trafford tonight but it will be of anticipation rather than fear. When the realisation he would be succeeding Ferguson began to roll through his mind, it would have been occasions like this that would have seemed most thrilling.

No stadium in England transforms itself for European nights quite like Old Trafford. On Saturday against Crystal Palace the atmosphere was flat and  routine in a way it seldom is at Anfield. However, under the floodlights it  becomes what it is, one of the world’s great arenas. As he gave his first Champions League press conference, Moyes was sitting in a room in which there were 15 separate photographs of United players and managers with the European Cup.

Manchester: David Moyes will sample the Champions League group phase for the first time on Tuesday when his Manchester United side host Bayer Leverkusen in their opening Group A fixture.

Moyes was selected to succeed Alex Ferguson as United manager at the end of last season despite having only overseen two matches in the competition during his 11-year tenure at Everton.

Manchester United are set to pair Wayne Rooney and Robin van Persie in attack again for the Champions League clash with Bayer Leverkusen.

Rooney is close to a full recovery from a head injury sustained in training and scored against Palace at the weekend.

There are still doubts over Shinji Kagawa with boss Moyes saying at Monday's press conference: "He has a bit of flu. He did some work yesterday and a little bit today."

Youngster Adnan Januzaj, who impressed off the bench against Palace, is not part of the squad.

Manchester United vs Bayer Leverkusen September 17, 2013

Moyes confirmed that the complicated UEFA eligibility criteria means if United wait to register him until October 7, by which time he will have been with the Reds for two years, he can go on the B list of youth players.

Those games, in 2005, saw the Merseyside club beaten 4-2 by Villarreal over two legs in the third qualifying round, but Moyes is relishing the prospect of a second bite at the apple.

"I have been in the Champions League before but I have not made the group stage. I had quite a few episodes in the Europa League, which were good, but nothing at the level of the Champions League.

"We will do our homework to make sure we are as prepared as we can be."

United are the only genuine European heavyweights in the group, but with Shakhtar Donetsk and Real Sociedad making up the pool, there is not a weak team in Group A either.

Moyes says that although things could have been better, they could also have been a lot worse.

"It was the first time I have been involved in a draw at that level," said the Scot.

"When the names came out, there were some that I didn`t want and others I would have been happy with. Relatively, I am quite pleased.
Manchester United predicted starting XI:

De Gea; Fabio, Ferdinand, Vidic, Evra; Valencia, Carrick, Giggs, Nani, Rooney, Van Persie.

Arsenal vs Fenerbahce August 27, 2013

Arsene Wenger has called on Arsenal to finish the job when they host Fenerbahce at the Emirates on Tuesday bidding to qualify for the lucrative UEFA Champions League group stages.

The Gunners go into the second leg play-off clash in a dominant position following a 3-0 win in Turkey last week.

Second-half goals from Kieran Gibbs, Aaron Ramsey and Olivier Giroud boosted the Gunners' hopes of securing their place in Thursday's draw for the group stages for a 16th successive season.

Arsenal vs. Fenerbahce

Date: 7.45 p.m. BST/2:45 p.m. EDT, Tuesday, Aug. 27, 2013

Another season of UEFA Champions League football is almost secure.

The Gunners hold a 3-0 aggregate lead ahead of the second leg play-off after cruising to a straight forward victory in Istanbul thanks to goals from Kieran Gibbs, Aaron Ramsey and Olivier Giroud last week.

Arsene Wenger may also be tempted to field a weakened side against the Turkish outfit, with one eye on this weekend's north London derby with Tottenham.

After beating Fenerbahce last week in Turkey, Arsenal need only to see out the second leg successfully at the Emirates Stadium on Tuesday night. With a 3-0 advantage in hand, the Gunners seem destined for a 16th consecutive season in Europe's most prestigious club competition.

The second leg is scheduled to kick off at 7.45 p.m. BST, or 2:45 p.m

It was just the morale-boosting performance Wenger was seeking following his side's 3-1 opening Premier League home defeat by Aston Villa.

Real Madrid vs Real Betis August 18, 2013

Real Madrid begin their battle for Spanish supremacy with Barcelona by welcoming Real Betis to the Bernabeu.

In most leagues, watching the second-place and seventh-place finishers would be an interesting matchup. Since this is La Liga, you don't give the seventh-place team much of a chance

Real Madrid begin life under Carlo Ancelotti this weekend as they get the 2013-14 La Liga campaign underway at home to Real Betis.

Ancelotti could hand full debuts to summer signings Isco and Asier Illarramendi, while Daniel Carvajal is in contention for a first start after rejoining Madrid at the end of last season.

The Italian coach must also contend with injury doubts surrounding senior players in his first match in charge, with Xabi Alonso, Raphael Varane and Pepe all carrying knocks.

Betis will be without last season's top scorer Ruben Castro on Sunday night, losing the striker to a hamstring injury.

Xavi Torres should make his bow for the visitors in midfield, with Joan Verdu also hoping for a Betis debut in an advanced wide role.

Jose Mourinho is gone from the Bernabéu and has been replaced by Carlo Ancelotti as Real Madrid look to recover from season in which they failed to win a major trophy. That's not something that happens to Los Blancos very often and Ancelotti knows he has to turn things around quickly.

Possible lineups:

Real Madrid: Casillas, Marcelo, Ramos, Pepe, Arbeloa, Özil, Khedira, Modric, Isco, Ronaldo,

Betis: Andersen, Chica, Paulao, Perquis,Nacho, Matilla, Nosa, Cedric, Juanfran, Verdu, Molina
Fans have become accustomed to seeing Barcelona and Madrid cannibalize the rest of Spain, but this is getting ridiculous. Aside from the top two clubs, the Spanish league is seeing a major talent drain, as European teams cherry pick the best talent of every other club.

Match Date/Time: 9 p.m. local, 3 p.m. ET

Venue: Estadio Santiago Bernabéu, Madrid, Spain

Swansea vs Manchester United August 17, 2013

Jonathan de Guzman will miss Swansea's Premier League opener against Manchester United due to concussion.
The Dutch midfielder was hurt in a training ground collision with Dirk Kuyt while on international duty and could also miss the first leg of the Europa League play-off against Petrolul Ploiesti.
Pablo Hernandez and Jonjo Shelvey are available again after their respective groin injury and illness, while Wilfried Bony is set to feature despite only arriving back from Ivory Coast's friendly against Mexico in New Jersey late last on Thursday night.

Meanwhile, David Moyes must decide whether to include Wayne Rooney in the squad for his first Premier League game as Manchester United manager at Swansea.

United arrive with an aura because of what has gone before to take on a Swans side whose own success last term etched itself into the record books after what can easily be argued as the club’s greatest ever season.

The thing with history, though, that it is in the past.

And, as it is on the opening day of a season more than any other, it is the future and what lies ahead that now matters.

For both clubs at the Liberty Stadium in this early evening kick-off; they must know that while history can be built upon, it cannot be relied upon.

David Moyes will bring his Manchester United team to Swansea on the season's opening dayDavid Moyes will bring his Manchester United team to Swansea on the season's opening day
Yet while there remains real intrigue as how United will cope with such a challenge under new Scottish stewardship, it is how Swansea have embraced that fact that offers such optimism. Not only of today, where there are genuine hopes of a first Premier League victory over the men from Old Trafford, but of the long season that stands before them.

Manager Michael Laudrup had repeatedly warned that Swansea needed to improve just to be in with a chance of meeting mid-table targets. Whether you buy the belief that such thinking was the crux of the matter for the summer tension over his future at the club or not, Swansea have done that.

They have spent like never before, although the £20m on six recruits indeed seems like good budgeted business given the strength of the squad the Dane can call upon later today. Including, of course, that striker in £12m man Wilfried Bony that was so clearly needed to add greater goal threat and perhaps get even more from that man Michu, a player who had the now retired Ferguson cursing his scouting staff last year.

Rooney completed 65 minutes of his first game of the summer when England defeated Scotland on Wednesday and is expected to be on the bench at the Liberty Stadium.

Venue:Liberty Stadium
Kick-off: Saturday 17 August (kick-off 17:30 BST).
Swansea (Possible, 4-4-1-1): Vorm; Rangel, Williams, Amat, B Davies; Routledge, Britton, Shelvey, Hernandez; Michu; Bony.
Out: De Guzman (concussion).
Manchester United (Possible, 4-4-1-1): De Gea; Jones, Ferdinand, Vidic, Evra; Valencia, Carrick, Anderson, Cleverley; Welbeck; Van Persie.
Out: Fletcher (colitis), Hernandez, Rafael (both hamstring), Nani (groin), Young (unspecified).

West Brom vs Southampton August 17, 2013

West Bromwich Albion can mirror last season's strong start with a victory in their opening Premier League fixture, while Southampton's aim is to retain their top-flight status for a second campaign in a row.

The Baggies finished eighth last season under head coach Steve Clarke, who has added former Chelsea striker Nicolas Anelka, Goran Popov and Diego Lugano to the squad, while the club are awaiting news on Scott Sinclair's potential arrival from Manchester City.

The experienced striker, who has played for five top-flight clubs, including Arsenal, Manchester City and Chelsea, is back in England after an 18-month absence following his arrival at the Midlands club in July.

Anelka is one of three new West Brom signings, with Diego Lugano and promising youngster Matej Vydra also joining from Paris-Saint Germain and Udinese, respectively, with the latter on a season-long loan deal.
And head coach Steve Clarke has already seen the 34-year-old Anelka prove he remains a prolific finisher by netting seven goals in as many preseason friendly games for the club.

The Baggies' boss will be hoping the Frenchman can make an instant impact on his return to the Premier League as West Brom looks to build on last season's eighth-place finish. History is on its side as the club is unbeaten against Southampton at home since May 1984.

But Mauricio Pochettino's men have their own plans, and, after returning to the Premier League after a seven-year absence last season, are targeting a top-10 finish. Southampton have new signings to showcase, too, with Croatia international Dejan Lovren and former Celtic midfielder Victor Wanyama both available to the Argentine ahead of his first full campaign in charge.

Pochettino has a number of injury doubts, though, as he has concerns over young defenders Luke Shaw and Nathaniel Clyne, with the former suffering from a knee injury during a 4-3 friendly win over Real Sociedad on Saturday.

Anelka is likely to start up front alongside Shane Long at The Hawthorns, while Youssouf Mulumbu and Claudio Yacob could hold the midfield line.

Mauricio Pochettino's Southampton side will head into their first game with Luke Shaw and Nathaniel Clyne both doubtful, but Dejan Lovren is expected to make his Premier League debut for the Saints.

Rickie Lambert is likely to be chosen by Pochettino to lead the attack after scoring on his England debut in the Three Lions' 3-2 win over Scotland at Wembley on Wednesday night.

West Brom vs Southampton August 17, 2013

West Bromwich Albion: Foster; Ridgewell, Olsson, McAuley, Jones; Brunt, Mulumbu, Yacob, Morrison; Anelka, Long

Southampton: Boruc; Shaw, Yoshida, Lovren, Clyne; Lallana, Wanyama, Schneiderlin, Cork, Ramirez; Lambert

Sunderland vs Fulham August 17, 2013

Paolo Di Canio has worked diligently to stamp his authority into a struggling Sunderland squad. The team have rarely played free-flowing, attack-minded football across the last few years, but the Italian boss is looking to change that.

Jozy Altidore enters the Premier League season in fine form. His hat-trick during USA’s 4-3 comeback win over Bosnia and Herzegovina is the perfect confidence booster ahead of the campaign.

Expect the battling forward to lead the line with Emanuele Giaccherini and Adam Johnson in a front three that possesses real incision. With Stephane Sessegnon sitting behind Altidore, the Black Cats finally have a threat that will make knees tremble.

While many Sunderland supporters would settle for a pleasant mid-table plod through the campaign, they are equally realistic that yet another year of transition awaits.
The appointment of Martin O'Neill in December 2011 was supposed to herald a much-needed period of stability, yet within 16 months he was gone, with his side precariously close to a return to the Championship.

Fulhamerica” visits Jozy Altidore‘s Sunderland in a U.S. special Saturday. The red-hot 23-year-old striker is set to make his Sunderland debut, his first in the English Premier League since his failed Hull City stint in the 2009/10 season.

Just like in the Stoke City vs. Liverpool matchup, both these clubs finished in relatively disappointing positions. Last year’s hot start for Fulham (including a 5-0 defeat of Norwich on Opening Day) fizzled out as they relied heavily on Dimitar Berbatov for goals. The end of the year brought fatigue, which led to them being sucked into the relegation battle before outsidee help saw them pushed up to 12th place.

Sunderland were very much in the relegation tempest, finishing just above the drop zone in 17th thanks largely to Wigan’s league failures down the stretch. Paolo Di Canio, brought in with seven games to go to inject some fighting spirit into the squad and avoid relegation, has signed a whopping 10 new players this summer, including Altidore. Many of them, like Emanuele Giaccherini and Vito Mannone, could not just make appearances Saturday but start as well.

Altidore is on a blistering hot streak this summer in international play for the United States, and Di Canio would love for his new signing to carry that success over to his team as well. Jozy bagged a hat-trick against Bosnia-Herzegovina to spur the United States to a stunning comeback just two days ago, making it five consecutive matches Altidore has scored in for the United States.

Norwich City vs Everton August 17, 2013

Norwich fans will be looking forward to seeing new strikers Gary Hooper and Ricky van Wolfswinkel tomorrow as Norwich host Everton. Manager Chris Hughton has spent around £13m on the two strikers but is still expecting a tough season: “We've had two very good seasons in this division, but this season - irrespective of what we've brought in - will start just as hard as last season started”.

New Everton manager, Roberto Martinez, will be looking for positive start to his reign. Everton have managed to keep hold of their best players from last season and fans will be hoping that the signing of Wigan striker Arouna Kone will result in more potency upfront when last season no Everton striker managed to get into double figures.

KICK-OFF: Tomorrow, 3p

Norwich came from behind to win this fixture in February, when late goals from Kei Kamara and Grant Holt secured a 2-1 win for the hosts who have not lost to Everton at Carrow Road since 2004.

The tie represents the start of a fresh era for the visitors, as new boss Roberto Martinez prepares to take charge of his first competitive game, following the departure of David Moyes at the end of last season.

It has also been a summer of change for the Canaries with a host of new arrivals, as manager Chris Hughton looks to build on last season's seventh place finish, breaking the club's transfer record to spend £8.5million on Dutch striker Ricky van Wolfswinkel from Sporting Lisbon.

Highly-rated youngsters Nathan Redmond and Leroy Fer have also joined, from Birmingham City and FC Twente respectively, while the signings of Gary Hooper, Martin Olsson, Javier Garrido and Carlo Nash will boost Hughton's options.

Martinez himself has been busy in the transfer market, signing three familiar faces in Arouna Kone, Antolin Alcaraz and Joel Robles who all worked under him at Wigan, in addition to the loan capture of Barcelona's 19-year old winger Gerard Deulofeu.

Arsenal vs Aston Villa August 17, 2013

The more last season went on, the more impressive Paul Lambert's side were, and the addition of six more young new signings should only improve his squad further AND the supporters' belief in the idea of evolution through youth.
At 23, the exciting Bulgarian winger Aleksander Tonev is the oldest of Villa's new boys, and if, as expected, Shay Given departs this transfer window - there won't be a single player aged 30 or above in the squad.

As well as the incomers, seven of last season's team have signed new long-term deals this summer, with the persuasion of Christian Benteke to stay surely the most important signing of all. Will Arsenal fans be looking at him thinking what they could have had?

They have signed one player who's been likened to Benteke (20-year-old Frenchman Yaya Sanogo) - but that's it, just one player. You can understand some Gooners thinking it's 'groundhog season' again.
Bids for superstars like Luis Suarez and Gonzalo Higuain show that Arsene Wenger is trying to strengthen with sizeable funds available, and the boss insists the club will be active in the transfer market until deadline day.

The bookies make Arsenal strong favorites to win this game but, I have a feeling this could be very tight.

Although Arsenal have had a reasonable pre season culminating in a 3-1 victory over Man City there is sure to be a hint of unrest over the lack of any, as promised, marquee signings.

Aston Villa on the other hand seemed to have invested wisely during the window with numbers and experience being added to the squad. This being topped off with Paul Lambert persuading star striker Christian Benteke to stick with the Villain’s for at least another season.

From the outside I see Villa progressing this season and finishing in the top ten, would be interested if their fans would be satisfied with that progress and a run in one of the cups. I won’t mention Bradford if you don’t!

I think there will be goals in this with both teams looking stronger offensively rather than defensively and with my Arsenal head I am tipping the Gunners to edge it by the odd goal.

Liverpool 1-0 Stoke City August 17, 2013

Potters' boss Mark Hughes appeared set for a point in his first game in charge but Mignolet kept out Jon Walters's spot-kick after Daniel Agger handled. Earlier, Potters' defender Robert Huth and Reds centre-back Kolo Toure were both denied by the woodwork. Liverpool striker Daniel Sturridge then scored the eventual winner, arrowing in a 22-yard shot. The first game of the league begins today. As the Premier League season kicks off, Liverpool will host Stoke City, as both clubs eye improvement on last year.

Liverpool open the Premier League season against Stoke City on Saturday, with Brendan Rodgers' team favourites for the lunchtime match. They've been busy in the transfer market so far, with Spanish attacking arrivals Luis Alberto and Iago Aspas, defender Kolo Touré and goalkeeper Simon Mignolet all set for their debuts.

However, Rodgers will be without striker Luis Suárez, who is still suspended after chewing on Branislav Ivanović's arm last season. Defensive duo Daniel Agger and Martin Skrtel are both early doubts with slight injuries, though will hopefully be available for selection.

Out: Luis Suárez (suspended). In doubt: Daniel Agger (knee), Martin Skrtel (knock).

Liverpool vs Stoke August 17, 2013

Both clubs experienced disappointing campaigns last season relative to what the clubs are looking to achieve, and the new campaign is an opportunity to erase those failures.

Spain vs Tahiti June 20, 2013

Expect Spain to change their entire team or close to it against Tahiti on Thursday afternoon. While the Tahitians put up a decent showing for most of their 6-1 defeat to Nigeria, there's obviously a bit of a different between Nigeria and Spain, as good as the Super Eagles are. A team of Segunda players would be favored over Tahiti, so Spain's senior B team should fare just fine.

Tahiti gets its big moment

Tahiti doesn't have a professional league and their captain lives in his mother's basement. Good luck trying to find a more unlikely qualifier for a major international tournament.
If you're expecting a record win for Spain ... well, don't expect them to be that mean. La Roja's biggest ever win is a 13-0 thumping of Bulgaria in a friendly back in 1933. Between Spain's fetish for passing in circles for minutes on end and Tahiti's reasonably competent showing against Nigeria, double-digit goals don't seem terribly likely.

Also, they have a guy who's better than Lionel Messi.

Match date/time: Thursday, 3 p.m. ET
We all know who is going to win today's game between Spain and Tahiti. But the odds for Tahiti are the longest I have ever seen for a match and may not come around for years.

Make no mistake, there will be no Tahiti treat today or on any other day in this tournament. However, you need to see the incredibly wild offerings for today's game. The spectrum is so wide, you may never see them at a major international tournament for years.

Every bookmaker understands how lopsided this game will be, and as a result they have dropped their total amount of bet options considerably. For example, there are only 17 betting offerings for this game, whereas the Nigeria-Uruguay tilt three hours later offers 192.

The real entertainment here is seeing that Spain is paying out 1.01 to win the match. That's right. For every $10 you wager on Spain, you will net a grand total of ten cents. Of course, if you are wagering on this game you will have no legitimate options but to look at either following: handicap, correct score, or amount of goals that specific players will score.

William Hill expects the final score to be 7-0, and that is paying out 6.00 right now. But with Nigeria beating the islanders 6-1 on opening day, I fully expect the much more talented and skilled Spaniards to hit the double digit mark. If they don't, it is only because they will give mercy and take the foot off the pedal. It is hard to say how many will be scored, but as a measuring stick the 10-0 is at 9.00.

The match handicaps alone start at the -6 mark and it's at 1.33, something I never thought I'd see in my lifetime. The Spain -8 is at 2.10 while the -9 is at 3.00. Worth a ten dollar bet just for the entertainment value alone.

Just to score in the game Tahiti are paying 5.00. To take a point, Tahiti is listed at an unbelievable 17.00. For the win you ask? Try the astronimical 51.00!

The first line to hit over evens (2.00) in the over total goals section is the over 9.5.

Who will score for Spain? Likely a lot of players. But for the first time ever, the entire Spanish starting 11 are all paying under 1.50 to score anytime during the match. David Villa, Fernando Torres, and Roberto Soldado are all being issued at 3.00 to score a hat-trick.

Although the odds are absolutely unheard of, try out a total goals or handicap pick to at least make it worth watching.

Brazil 2-0 Mexico June 19, 2013

90+ JO Brazil 2-0 Mexico June 19, 2013 Final
Mexico has raised their game against a top opponent again but, just like in their game against Italy,it has yet to result in them taking a lead. Mexico has kept Brazil at bay for the most part and even looked lively in attack during the first half, but one moment of brilliance from Neymar has the hosts up 1-0 at halftime of this Confederations Cup tilt.

El Tri started very slow, dropping deep and giving Brazil plenty of space in midfield. That backfired, however, and led to numerous early chances for Brazil. Their goal came in the 23rd minute on a great strike from Brazil's biggest star. Dani Alves set up the goal with a dangerous cross into the box that 'Maza' Francisco Rodriguez got a touch to, but couldn't clear completely away from danger. That set up Neymar stepping up and drilling a volley past Jose Corona from the edge of the box to give his team the lead.

Mexico was much better after the goal and perhaps even the better side in the last 20 minutes of the first half. They let Hulk and Neymar break away from them on a couple of dangerous-looking counters, but always recovered well and didn't allow Brazil to do much in the way of building sustained attacks at the end of the half.

Brazil could qualify for the destructive leg with a victory. They have collected 3 points, therefore another 3 would guarantee Brazil is going to complete leastways 2nd in Group A. Selecao looked excellent to Japan, and Luiz Felipe Scolari is going to want to maintain this drive to Mexico.

That is the best Brazil have just seen under Scolari, and that tourney can go a long way to get the team prepare for the World Cup.

Mexico just requires to win, leg. They have won only one time in 6 World Cup qualifying games. El Tri looked very monotonous in their 2-1 loss againist Italy in their 1st game of the tourney.

A loss would not accuse Mexico to sifting. However they would require many things to go right to make it to the destructive leg.

Mexico have sufficient capability to have achieve at the World Cup. Currently, Mexico players look non-sure of themselves and irregular on the field.
+
Despite their valiant effort, Mexico kicked off their Confederations Cup campaign with a loss against Italy on Sunday. While a repeat performance would be mildly encouraging, it could also mean their exit from Confederations Cup. Brazil, who comfortably defeated Japan 3-0 in their opener, will like their chances to sink El Tri and potentially dump them out of the tournament, pending the result of Italy-Japan.

Brazil played with Neymar underneath Fred in their first match and the results were encouraging, with Fred setting up Brazil's biggest star for a fantastic 20-yard opening goal. The hosts never looked back after that and never looked to be under too much of a threat from Japan. Mexico entertained in their 2-1 loss to Italy, but were ultimately outclassed.

El Tri tend to bring their best against the world's top sides, but it's tough to see them having much of an answer for Brazil. There simply isn't a single aspect of the game in which they match up well, and it will probably take numerous bad mistakes from the home side for Mexico to avoid defeat.
