Arsenal vs Norwich City April 13, 2013
The Gunners currently lie two points behind both third placed Chelsea and fourth placed Tottenham in the Premier League standings, but, crucially, have a game in hand on the latter. Since losing to their north London rivals early last month, Arsenal have won three successive matches to put them into position to make the Champions League for a 16th successive season.
Last week’s victory at West Brom came at a price, though, with Per Mertesacker being sent off and now serves a one-match suspension. That will mean Thomas Vermaelen returning to the starting lineup for the first time since being dropped following a poor showing against Tottenham.
There is better news for Arsenal with the return to training of Jack Wilshere and Theo Walcott. Wenger said that both have a 90 percent chance of being involved on Saturday. The scorer of both goals against West Brom, Tomas Rosicky, is a major doubt with a hamstring problem.
Arsenal suffered a 1-0 defeat when they met Norwich at Carrow Road last October and Wenger is eager for his side to show how far they have progressed.
"We know that they are a good side and we know that they are a dangerous side,” he explained. “We believe that today we are stronger than we were at that moment of the season and that's what we want to show on Saturday.”
That win earlier in the season began a rich vein of form for Norwich as they went 10 matches unbeaten in the league, winning six. Since that spell, though, Chris Hughton’s side have won just once in 15 matches and have slipped to within four points of the relegation zone.
Rubin Kazan vs Chelsea April 11, 2013
Chelsea can take a step closer to becoming only the fourth side to win all three of UEFA’s major club competitions by cementing a place in the Europa League semi-finals when they travel to Rubin Kazan on Thursday.
Only Juventus, Ajax and Bayern Munich can count Champions League, Cup Winners’ Cup and UEFA Cup triumphs among their list of honours, but Chelsea are well positioned to add their name to that elite group as they head to Russia with a 3-1 advantage from the first leg at Stamford Bridge.
Thursday's fixture will see them return to the Luzhniki Stadium in Moscow, the setting for their UEFA Champions League final defeat to Manchester United in 2008.
Rubin will be hoping to inflict more continental heartache on the Blues in midweek, with it important for them to burst out of the blocks and strike early.
Two goals would be enough to see them through, with an away goal already in the bag, and their defensive record bodes well in their quest to claim a clean sheet.
Rubin have secured seven shut-outs in this season's Europa League - a joint-competition-high alongside Newcastle.
The 23-year-old is too ill to travel, giving Nathan Ake, 18, an opportunity to make his second Blues start. Gary Cahill, who had knee surgery at the weekend, joins Cole on the sidelines while Demba Ba is cup-tied. Midfielder Oriol Romeu is not expected to play again this season after suffering a knee injury in December. Chelsea take a two-goal advantage to Moscow's Luzhniki Stadium after a 3-1 win at Stamford Bridge that featured two goals from Fernando Torres.
